Program Description

This intensive module (together with the Assessor course) forms the core unit standards of the Occupationally Directed Education Training Development Practices certificate. It provides the subject matter expert with everything they need to know about imparting their skills effectively, from providing information to learners to effective delivery in the
classroom.

  • Khanyisela College customises the course materials to include the clients’ work
    processes and business templates in order for the learning to be meaningful.
  • Facilitation is interactive and practical, ensuring that the learning is engaging and interesting.
  • There is a break of three weeks between the days of face-to-face activity and the portfolio-building workshop, to ensure that learners collect adequate evidence to complete their portfolio of evidence.
  • Learning is followed by learner support sessions before a portfolio of evidence is submitted, to greatly increase learners’ chances of being declared competent.

Target Audience

This unit standard is for people who design and develop assessments to facilitate consistent, credible, reliable, fair, and unbiased assessments of learning outcomes. The outcomes may be defined in a range of documents including but not limited to unit standards, exit level outcomes, assessment standards, curriculum statements and qualifications. This unit standard will contribute towards the achievement of a variety of qualifications particularly within the field of Education, Training and Development Practices and Human Resource Development.

Competencies required

  • Have already achieved unit standard NLRD 115753: Conduct outcomes-based assessment, or equivalent.
  • Must be competent in the relevant field in which they are designing assessments.
  • Be able to analyse and interpret the relevant outcomes within area of learning

Facilitation Methodology

  • All Facilitators are subject matter experts as well as registered Assessors against the relevant qualifications.
  • Facilitators engage in train-the-trainer methodology to ensure that they are competent in outcomes-based training and activities in the classroom, and are subject to regular continuous improvement to ensure that they remain relevant.
  • Methodology is engaging and interactive, catering for all types of learning styles ensuring
    that the learners remain interested for as much of the course as possible.
  • Learning activities consist of formative activities which take place during the training and
    include group work, simulations, case studies as well as self-directed activities, and summative assignments which are completed at the workplace to demonstrate reflexive competence.
  • Support is provided during the training by the Facilitator as well as the Quality Officer on the last day of training on how to complete the quality assurance aspects of the portfolio successfully.
